In this lesson, students will write free-verse acrostic poems about themselves using the letters of their names to begin each line. They then write an additional acrostic poem about something that is important to them. After proofreading, both poems are recopied or typed and illustrated and then mounted on construction paper for display. Several opportunities for sharing and peer review are incorporated.
Students will gain an understanding of the roles and interests of stakeholders in Australia and learn about their impact on the economy and environment throughout Australia.
Students will explore their own multiple intelligences and consider how these talents could be used in a future career.
Students will explore science careers by matching vocabulary words with the career associated with that term.
Students will become familiar with vocabulary terms related to careers and occupations. Students will also brainstorm careers that requre a high school diploma, a 2 year degree, and a 4 year degree.

Students will develop jump rope skills including hand and foot coordination, traveling and changing direction, and speed. They will develop heart and lung strength by jumping rope, engage in cooperative group activity, and practice good sportsmanship.
