This lesson is a duel standard math lesson combining 2nd grade knowledge of shapes as well as measurement.

Students will find a certain amount of shapes and then will place them together to measure them using standard measurement tools such as a ruler or centimeter measuring tool.

Lesson plan using a Cyberchase activity, gives students practice in estimating heights and lengths of objects when the measurement tools are not rulers. Two different kinds of measurement units allow students to measure by repeating the measurement with a single smaller object, and to measure with an object that is composed of multiple repeating units.

Students are challenged to count out ten connecting cubes and join them to make a tower. Next, they are to find objects in the classroom that are longer than the tower of ten cubes. They are to use pictures, numbers, or words to record their work.
