This parent guide supports parents in helping their child at home with the 1st Grade Math content.
This resource accompanies our Rethink 1st Grade Math Operations and Algebraic Thinking unit. It includes ideas for use, ways to support exceptional children, ways to extend learning, digital resources and tools, tips for supporting English Language Learners and students with visual and hearing impairments. There are also ideas for offline learning.
This unit was created by the Rethink Education Content Development Team. This course is aligned to the NC Standards for 1st Grade Math in Operations and Algebraic Thinking.
Parents are able to see student work as soon as it is posted. In this activity, students will solve a math problem with three integers and explain their thinking using SeeSaw.
This short video and interactive assessment activity is designed to teach second graders an overview of addition (sums to 10).
Students will determine the amount needed to add to the catapult to destroy the king's castle for him in this interactive activity.
The Family Letters explain big ideas of the cluster using family-friendly language. Families can also find tips for working with their children at home, digital games, videos, and books. This file contains both English and Spanish versions of the Family Letters.
Students complete the addition sentence by filling in the missing number with sums up to 20 in this interactive resource.
In this Khan Academy interactive, students will determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation involving three whole numbers.
This task asks students to solve addition and subtraction equations with different structures so that they are able to see the connections between addition and subtraction more easily.
For this assessment, students use number cards to determine the missing number for the equations.
Students determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating to three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8+ ? =11, 5 = ? ? 3, 6+6 = ? Game board templates are provided.
In this lesson, students look for and make use of repeated reasoning and structure using the addition chart to solve subtraction problems.
In this lesson, students analyze the addition chart to create sets of related addition and subtraction facts.
Students solve addition and subtraction problems to 20 by counting all the objects in their head.
For this assessment, students determine if an equation is true or false.
In this lesson, students represent teen number decompositions as 10 ones and some ones, and find a hidden part.
In this game students must engage basic addition and subtraction facts.
For this assessment, students use manipulatives to assist them in deciding what number makes the equation true.
This lesson uses shapes/symbols to represent a missing value in a mathematical equation.
