Suzie borrowed ideas from professional development and learning conferences for teachers who may need a boost to get their project-based learning off the ground.

In lesson 1 of this unit, students will explore what it means to be connected to other people with and without digital technology. They'll also start to consider the ways that their digital connections shape who they are.

The Art of Illumination project is a great way for students in grades 5-12 to experience the medieval process of illumination as authentically as possible. After researching the history, people, and art of the Medieval Ages, students will have the opportunity to create an illuminated text of their own.

This is a PodCast assignment that could be used in place of a book report or similar presentation. 

After reading books, students share book talks through digital storytelling. First, students plan scripts and then find images to illustrate their scripts. They also add text, narration, music as well as pan and zoom effects. Finally, the joy of reading is prompted through the sharing of the students' digital stories.

In this lesson, students will apply their understanding of the elements of plot structure and conflict to cooperatively create storyboards and speak effectively as they present their products.

In this activity, students research a decade in their school’s history. Within each group, students take on specific roles such as archivist, manager, techie, or researcher. Students become active archivists, gathering photos, artifacts, interviews, and stories for a museum exhibit that highlights one decade in their school’s history. The final project can be shared and displayed in your classroom, in the school auditorium or in the library.

In this lesson, students create a poster in the shape of a shield to represent their individual lives for the purpose of a one-minute personal introduction speech.

In this lesson, students work in groups to create inventions using common objects then draft expository essays explaining the purpose of the invention.

Students analyze characters by noting the ways in which defining moments shape their personalities in William Golding's Lord of the Flies. Students will chart changes, note the “direction” of their characters, support their conclusions with textual evidence, and present their findings.

In this lesson, students will work collaboratively to create a presentation featuring an electrostatics demonstration. The demonstration should deal with some aspect of the three basic principles of electrostatics. Each group will also submit a written descripton of their demonstration.

In this lesson, students cut pictures out of magazines that relate to their lives to glue on bags to share with the class.

Students design and conduct research to discover firsthand what type of fish is being sold in their community, where this fish comes from, and whether that fish is an overfished species. This lesson gives students a chance to do their own market research and discover first-hand what type of fish is being sold to the public. It also provides an introduction to fish as an important food source and as an industry controlled partly by supply and demand. The results that emerge from this lesson will likely lead your students to question the role of public education in seafood choices for sustainable fisheries.

 This is a 1 day introduction to a career investigations research project for standard level students. It involves using digital tools to reflect and link personal interests and strengths to possible career paths. 

Students will use digital tools to produce and publish individual infographics. Each student will insert their Infographic into a digital book which will showcase all student career investigations and serve as a future guide for career path questions.

 Students will write a 6 Word Memoir. Using the Waterlogue app on mini iPads, as well as the PicSee app, students will layer their 6 Word Memoir over a sketch, personal photograph or found image reflective of its theme.

Students will reserach various colleges of their choosing in order to best prepare for post-secondary endeavors. The research will be conducted using a handout with specific questions for students to answer about each college. Students will present findings in a Microsoft Publisher brochure.

Prezi video is a great resource for students to use to create original content. The planning and execution of content represents levels 3 and 4 of Webb's Depth of Knowledge (DOK).

Flipping the EC classroom is a great way to challenge students to meet their full potential.
