Students will discover how to read music notes in the treble clef and then will learn to perform simple songs on
xylophones, through reading the story Freddy the Frog and the Thump in the Night by Sharon Burch.

This lesson uses the book, One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree, by Daniel Bernstrom and Brendon Wenzel, to incorporate music, reading/writing/language arts, visual art, social studies, and physical education into a lesson or unit of lessons. The resource lists 5 different ways the book can be used, from a 15 minute reading with instrumental accompaniment, to a weeks-long project of writing and illustrating a sequel to the book. 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of steady beat as they participate in this fast paced passing game. This lesson is designed to fulfill Standard #1 and #2 of the National Standards for Music: Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music; and Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

Students will learn to play a quarter/eighth note rhythm pattern on percussion instruments. This lesson is designed to fulfill Standard #2 of the National Standards for Music: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

In this three lesson unit, the concept areas of rhythm, melody, harmony, form and tone color are used. Skills will be developed in singing, moving, listening, playing instruments, creating, analyzing, and relating music to other areas such as history and literature.

Students study a composer and learn about the musical genre of opera, They learn form and melodic patterns, read the opera storyline, and develop their own opera scenes.

Students will become more familiar with the syllables of the solfege scale. This lesson is designed to fulfill Standard #5 of the National Standards for Music: Reading and notating music.

Through this multi-sensory lesson, students are introduced to the four oceans of the world. The use of music, art and creative movement increase the experiential learning of all students.

Students will learn to appreciate the process of telling a story through song, while learning basic musical skills like rhythm, singing on pitch, and call-and-response format.

Students will understand the basic elements of a fanfare, and the significant role fanfares have played in history as a means of communicating information and emotions.

Students will learn about tempo (Adagio, Andante, Allegro) through movement. This music lesson plan is designed to fulfill Standard #5 of the National Standards for Music: Reading and notating music.

Students learn to keep a steady beat in a fun-filled jumprope activity/contest. This lesson is designed to fulfill Standard #2 of the National Standards for Music: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
