    Book and Music Lesson - One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree

    Overview

    This lesson uses the book, One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree, by Daniel Bernstrom and Brendon Wenzel, to teach students about quarter and half notes.

    Listen to or read aloud One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree, by Daniel Bernstrom & Brendan Wenzel

    1. Students will listen to the story One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree using the link below.

    The instructor may also read the book aloud to the student.  If this is an e-Learning situation, students may use the above link to listen.

    Review/Introduce quarter and eighth notes.

    Depending on where your students are, you can review quarter notes and eight notes or introduce them as needed.  You may use the following videos to supplement instruction.  E-Learning students can gather most of the information by watching the videos.  Younger students may need additional help.

    Create a rhythm for the Book Title

    Teach students how to speak the following rhythm:

    Depending on your students, you may need to modify this especially for your younger students.

    1.  The following words have 1 sound and will be quarter notes

    • One
    • Day
    • Tree

    2. The word eucalyptus has more that one sound so we will use eighth notes to say it.

    3. When we put it together, it looks like this: Title

     

    Re-read using rhythm

    Read the story to your students again.  Each time the title appears the students will chant:

    Face to Face:  Performance can vary from chanting to using instruments or singing the title.
