Everyone is talking about real and fake news. Even first graders are hearing their parents, teachers and journalists talking about it. Teachers should begin teaching media literacy skills as soon as students begin using the Internet. In the first grade, students will be visiting approved sites that most likely will still have advertisements. The students will learn how to distinguish between the advertisements and the actual content they are supposed to be using.

Note taking is an essential skill that should begin in the elementary. Students should be taking notes as they do research, watch videos and listen to lectures. Research shows that when students listen to a lecture that if they take notes they will better retain the information. The students can highlight the key ideas and add their own thoughts to help them study for a test.

Number Line by the Math Learning center is a useful tool for students to provide strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This extension also allows for creating number lines with fractions and negative numbers. This activity card can be used in grades tw0-five and can be adjusted for the students the teacher is working with.

Over 400 pages of teacher resources (including rubrics and answers) and student pages provide a greater depth and breadth to North Carolina studies than any other resource for middle and secondary students. These sections consist of lesson materials for students related to North Carolina. The lessons contained herein are intended for students in middle school, chiefly eighth grade, and are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. This project is not intended as new research on North Carolina. Instead, it is a compilation of available resources made accessible for today's youth. Research and data from disparate sources have been distilled into discrete units for helping students understand North Carolina - the state, its peoples, and its place in the world. This project is intended to introduce students and teachers to North Carolina and help them develop interest in and appreciation for this diverse and fascinating state. Many pages are also translated into Spanish. Individual components are uploaded separately in both English and Spanish for easier reference. This work is modular; each section can be used in isolation if desired to support instruction in Social Studies, math, English, or other topics.

Definitions of the major types of personality stability are provided, and evidence concerning the different kinds of stability and change are reviewed. The mechanisms thought to produce personality stability and personality change are identified and explained.

This module provides a basic overview to the assessment of personality. It discusses objective personality tests (based on both self-report and informant ratings), projective and implicit tests, and behavioral/performance measures. It describes the basic features of each method, as well as reviewing the strengths, weaknesses, and overall validity of each approach.

So many animals need a home! Students will visit the Humane Society’s Adoptable Animals page to pick an animal they’d like to see get a forever home. Students will use ChatterPix an iOS app and the power of persuasion to animate a photograph of an animal in need of adoption. There are several alternatives for those who don't have iPads in the classroom.

Children love to take pictures and videos. They also like to move around and find things. This lesson combines these to things into one fun and active lesson. Students will be showing their knowledge of the alphabet and letter sounds as they move around their classroom or school taking pictures of different items they find.
