This unit will focus on strategies for solving subtraction problems within 20. Students will learn strategies including: counting up and back on a open number line, using their knowledge of addition/subtraction facts within 10 to solve larger problems, and using doubles facts to solve subtraction problems. This unit builds on the last unit as students lean on their addition knowledge to help with subtraction. The big goal is for students to develop fluency with subtraction facts within 20.
