In this lesson, students will play a game in which they determine the number of cents (pennies) that equal a nickel, dime, and quarter. The students will also identify which set of coins has more, fewer, or the same amount while also counting each collection and writing the corresponding value.
In this lesson, students will play a game where they determine the value of different coin combinations.

This resource is from Tools4NCTeachers.This lesson is an extension of NC.1.MD.5 to provide rigor to students who need it. In this lesson, students use patterns to count sets of like coins (pennies, nickels, and dimes). Students will connect counting patterns to counting coins and will use coins in different ways to represent the same values. Students will also explain their strategies for counting sets of pennies, nickels, and dimes.
This resource is from Tools4NCTeachers. This file contains a set of 3 tasks (including scoring rubric and student recording sheet). The tasks may be used for instruction or assessment. Each focuses on coin recognition and coin values.Remix this resource to include student work samples or addtional tasks.
