The children will use a mat with a space to place the alligator (two popsicle sticks glued together with a googlie eye and paper teeth.) Each group of two will have a deck of cards and a stack of counters (beans, unifix cubes, red/yellow chips). They will play a game where the person who doesn't lose all their chips wins. This lesson was developed by NCDPI as part of the Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted Instructional Resources Project. This lesson plan has been vetted at the state level for standards alignment, AIG focus, and content accuracy.

Happy Number is a website that is being offered free until 6/30/2020 for teachers. You can create portfolios for the children where they go onto their profiles, enter passwords (that you are given to send to the parents) and complete activities electronically. You as the teacher can see the progress of the children. For example: Sue has completed the weekly target of 45 minutes (this amount of time can be changed to more or less time depending how the children are doing).
The progress report tab shows you what activities the children have completed and you can even get into as much detail as how long it took to complete each module or the accuracy rate to see where they might be struggling more and need extra support.
This website is great to send to the parents so they can have that time, if they need it, to complete work they are doing at home for their jobs. I also believe its a good way to demonstrate who is following directions as well because it speaks to the children.
Lastly you can see which parents are actively involved in their children progressing because you can see who has logged on and completed activities and who hasn't =/

The NC Office of Early Learning strongly encourages incorporating play into the daily routine of each classroom. Children grow and learn in all developmental domains through their engagement in centers; cognitive, physical, social, and emotional. Authentic learning and meaningful connections are made when a teacher intentionally weaves standards and supports development throughout children’s play. PlaytoLearn Center Posters provide information about common areas of development supported during play centers along with prompts connected to kindergarten standards and NC ELI dimensions.
PlaytoLearn Planning Guides (also shared on #GoOpenNC) provide information on why each center is important to children's development, tips for setting up centers, sugessted materials, actions of an intentional teacher, and common connections children make to content. Although these resources are specifically written for kindergarten, teaching and learning strategies can be applied to many grade levels.
