 In this activity, students will select a person, place, or object that is meaningful to them and create a thirty-second story that explains the importance of this place or object. This is a great activity for the first week or two of school to help students learn to get to know each other and work on their presentation skills. As we well know, public speaking among many people’s greatest fears, so in this assignment, students will create video presentations that allow for editing and revision which will hopefully lower the stakes of the presentation.

In this lesson students engineer ramps and race monster trucks. Students estimate and measure distances traveled and then organize and visually represent this data in a graph.

Having studied the archetypes of heros, students will be asked to complete a collaborative essay of a hero's journey utilizing narrative writing skills, the stages of the hero's journey, and elements, such as supernatural beings or creatures, found in mythology.  Students will bring the events of their hero’s journey to life by using dialogue, descrition, transition phrases, and sensory language.   Using a hyper-doc students will work in groups to create their collaborative story.If you want an option for students to have their own individual work have them independently complete Phase 4 of the hyper-doc.

These resources were provided by Moore County.  Teams will get 30 minutes to engineer something for their robot to accomplish a task. After that, teams will have 30 minutes to program their robot to complete the task. This competition is only for K-2 students. Each school may send up to 4 Dash teams to the Elementary showcase.

Project Summary
In this lesson students will learn about electromagnetic energy through a female engineer who invented frequency hopping that is used by so many devices we use daily. Students will explore and solve a real world problem by designing a device to block or build a stronger Wi-Fi signals. Each team will record their work with Flip.

In this lesson, students use their knowledge of sound energy to create a soundproof box to protect a secret code word! Students measure and graph decibels to determine how well their boxes omit sounds!

In this lesson students create large story maps to retell and familiar text. Students record themselves and place QR codes along the story map. Students then code Sphero Robots, dressed as main characters, to make their way through each part of the story.
