 Students will utilize a book of their choice as they work with the BeeBots for this activity. Students will have matching draw & mat cards and a text.  The draw card will show the students what to identify in the text.  If they identify that print concept correctly, then they will code the BeeBot to find that matching mat card.

 Students will participate in small groups to program their BeeBot to find 2 letter S blends, 3 letter S blends, S blend slides, S blend words, reading them and/or marking them to reinforce Reading Horizons foundational skills found within Chapter 2 for Kindergarten. Teacher will place BeeBot cards under the mat (can differentiate # of cards depending on level)Students draw a card to determine the number of (letters, slides, words) they’ll program.Students who are not programming can read the letters, slides, words.Students who are not programming can also sort the cards that are placed under the mat and add to the recording sheet.  After sorting, students can also mark the words.

The Talented Clementine

 In this lesson, students will be going through the Wonders Literature Anthology, reading “The Talented Clementine” and “Clementine and the Family Meeting”. Before reading the texts, students will review story elements by listening to the YouTube link posted below. The teacher and students will then go through reading the texts, pausing throughout reading to place sticky notes in their text to annotate the plot of the story (including setting, characterization and key events). Students will show their understanding by completing assignments in their reading/writing companion, and will then create a “Storyboard That” showing beginning, middle, and end of both texts for their formative assessment.

Students will work in small groups to view different types of texts and images from Wonders Unit 6. Students will identify which are fiction, non-fiction, poems, songs, newspaper, magazine, movies, art etc. and code their BeeBot to go to that space on the mat.Students will work in small groups to identify and discuss types of texts. Students can use the word cards as the Draw Deck and the images of the text types can go under the BeeBots mat. Students will pick one card and then code their BeeBot to go to that location on the mat.

What We Know About the Solar System with Makey Makey

Using Wonders Literature Anthology and students Reading/Writing Companion, students will learn “What we know about Earth and its neighbors”.  Students will read about discoveries in space and how we learn more about our solar system.  After reading texts from Wonders using literature anthology and student reading writing companion, students will be placed in 9 groups (representing one planet each) and conduct research on their planet.  Students will create a one pager displaying a drawing or image of their planet with six facts (facts must include size, temperature, and an option of four other facts).  Students will then utilize Makey Makey to conduct an oral presentation of their project by coding and recording facts.  After completion, students will do a Gallery Walk to visit each planet while completing interactive guided note sheet in Google Slides.

 This activity is in place of Research and Inquiry project on page 111 and 121 of student reading / writing companion In this lesson, students can choose from a list of historical figures to create a research project. Students will be asked to create a digital timeline of that person, and include images, audio, and/or video on their timeline that they find throughout their research. Each student will be asked to present their timeline to the rest of the class.
