Christine D'Aquanni with Be GLAD® presented strategies at ASCD Annual Conference 2021 in a session called Be GLAD®: Strategies for Creating a Community of Collaborative Learners.  The Narrative Input Chart is one strategy for making content comprehensible, particularly to support English Learners reading to understand sequence of events with key details. These slides were created as just one resource to support a reading of The Water Princess by Susan Verde and Peter H. Reynolds.

"Spying On Polar Bears" Elementary EL Jigsaw Lesson

I first heard of Jigsaw lessons through a ASCD conference session by Audrey Cohan, Andrea Honigsfeld, and Maria Dove. This type of collaborative work seemed perfect for my 4th grade English Learners and I’ve based this lesson off of that concept using a nonfiction article by Scholastic.

Henry Winkler is a well-known American actor and has appeared in multiple tv shows, but he is also an accomplished author and motivational speaker. He delivered a general session presentation at the 2021 ASCD Annual Conference in which he shared some anecdotes from his past and provided many inspirational quotes to encourage educators to find greatness within our students.
