Students will complete a close reading of Ted Kooser’s poem, Abandoned Farmhouse.  Students will use their knowledge about the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl to determine the setting and characters in the poem. After analyzing the author’s style, use of figurative language, and structure of the poem, students will write an ORIGINAL POEM in the spirit of Abandoned Farmhouse by using the same syntax.  Using the original poem and a template as a guide, students will compose a poem that reveals who they are through the voice of important objects in their homes.

This resource guide begins by outlining the theory underlying the literacy work and then lays out the framework for the supports included in the Readers series. Subsequent chapters describe and illustrate the specific content literacy and language development strategies that have been chosen as being of particularly high impact. Although most of the strategies can be used in multiple ways, we have chosen to present them as occurring "Before, During and After Reading" because of the importance of this mental model in effective content literacy instruction.

This is a great lesson plan to use to keep you on track. It includes what your principals/evaluators are looking for during observations, and even gives a section for you to reflect on your lesson. It can also be utilized by subs if written correctly.

This would also be a good tool to use with a substitute. It would be easy enough for a substitute to follow and give feedback on how the students completed the day.
Added through Remixing: A reflection piece was added for a teacher to examine how culturally relevant teaching principles are included in the lesson plan template. Also an indication of the grade level was added as well.

Pregnancy Support Plan for High School Students
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

Rating
0.0 stars

There are many ways to support pregnant or parenting students- online courses, hybrid schedules, and partial day schedules are a few examples. However, not every school in every district has access to these options or resources. This pregnancy plan was created for use at Garinger High School in Charlotte, NC.Per district policy, students who are pregnant must be advised by a counselor of their academic options while planning to participate in school to the fullest extent possible during pregnancy. In addition, pregnant students are allowed 4 weeks out of school following delivery unless additional time is requested by the treating physician. To simplify this process and support students’ academic progress, attendance, and connection to community resources, I created a pregnancy support plan during the 19-20 school year. So far, I have used this plan with 8 students, and it has been a benefit to the student, student services staff, and teachers.
