This virtual field trip from Historic Bath State Site is a fun way to learn more about a kid's life in the 18th century. The field trip packet contains ,links to YouTube videos of costumed interpreters demonstrating historic activities, pre- and post-watch content for educators that provide context and engagement, and follow-up activities (games, crafts, and coloring pages). Live Q&A can be booked as part of the field trip as well.

Students can learn about the Colonial Govenror Arthur Dobbs. Governor Dobbs ruled the colony of North Carolina during the 18th Century.

Fort Dobbs has created a series of short videos designed to teach students about the settlement of the Northwest Carolina backcountry, the lives of the Native Americans living in and near the region of Fort Dobbs, the life of a North Carolina Provincial Soldier, and North Carolina's role during the French and Indian War. The videos are designed for teachers to use them separately to fit into their own lessons or can be grouped together by theme.

Students will learn abouth te Freemen's Colony which was established by Union soldiers during the American Civil War.

Students can learn about Nathaniel Hart. Mr. Hart was an explorer who mapped out and negotiated with the Cherokee in the Western part of North Carolina.

Students and teachers can learn about the Haudenosaunee Alliance of various Native American groups including the Mohak from North Carolina.

In this lesson, students will explore how the market economy and technological advances have impacted and continue to influence human settlement and ecosystems of the TarPamlico River Basin, by focusing on the longleaf pine ecosystem. In Activity 1, students are introduced to the landscape of the basin during the 1700’s, which appeared forbidding and dense to the visitor. Activity 2 allows students to explore some of the economic benefits of longleaf pine forests and the results of human activity on the ecosystem. Activity 3 incorporates current knowledge, technology and views of managing forests for both ecological and economic gain.

Go on a virtual hike of the Rufus Morgan Trail and Falls, which is located near Franklin, NC in Macon County. The area is named after Albert Rufus Morgan, a pioneer in helping create the Appalachian Trail. The virtual tour starts with a 360-degree photo of Forest Road 388, which is used to drive to the trail. This will lead to more views of various areas along the trail, culminating in a 360-degree view of the main Rufus Morgan Falls.

In this lesson, students will examine the history of the car in America and use their knowledge to evaluate the impact that automotive technology had on NC travel and city growth.

Using word association and early maps of North Carolina, students will examine their preconceptions about the state and connect them to what they learn. This assignment acts as a diagnostic assessment. The benefit of using colonial maps rather than a current map of North Carolina is that students can make a connection between discovery and progression in the creation of the state that they know. This is intended to be used before any lesson about colonial times or discovery of America in general?the students can consider themselves ?explorers? along with the ones they learn about.

The NC Kids' Exploration Journals are a fun educational tool to help youth explore their communities and natural surroundings! Each journal contains: 18 multidisciplinary activities with guided prompts, 6 lined journal pages for recording observations and reflections, and 4 blank pages for individual creativity.

The digital versions of the journal are designed to be printed out for students either as individual activities or in its entirety so that they can explore their school yard, local park, or own backyard. Though designed for 1st - 5th-graders, older audiences may enjoy them too! They are also available in both English and Spanish languages.
