In this lesson, students reflect upon the ways they prepare for warm and cold weather in their area by drawing and describing the clothes they wear on warm and cold days.

This course was created by the Rethink Education Content Development Team. This course is aligned to the NC Standards for Kindergarten Science.

In this activity, students create a 3-D cube that illustrates the highlights of each season.

Students will work individually to design and create a doghouse that will help their pet during 1 of the 4 seasons. After completion students will present their pet houses to the class to present what elements of their design help their pet survive during their season.

In this lesson, students read a book that uses colorful illustrations to explain the relationship between the Sun and seasonal changes on Earth. After reading the book, students are given one of three leveled reading passages that related to the book's themes, concepts, characters, settings, or subject matter.

This informational text explores the relationships between various tundra species: marsh marigolds, bot flies, and caribou. The text is at a reading level appropriate for Kindergarten through first grade. It is a full-color pdf file that can be printed, cut, and folded to form a 2 1/8" by 2 3/4" book. It contains color photographs and illustrations.

This activity helps the students to learn to distinguish between the seasons by identifying and discussing key differences between each one.

This is a first grade science unit on weather.  Students will observe, measure, describe and record aspects of weather such as temperature, air, wind and clouds. They will also practice using various weather tools, and look for patterns in weather over a year-long span.

This will include descriptions of the weather (such as sunny, cloudy, rainy, warm) and collection of data related to wind speed and direction, temperature, and precipitation. Students will also compare the seasons.
