Activating Strategy
Check out other 3rd grade bar graphs. Do you think our data will look the same? Look at other bar and column graphs that were created using google sheets.

Students will discuss what some problems in their local community are, and how their local government solved a particular problem in their community. Then they will work in groups to solve their own community problem - there is no water storage in the town. Students will create a free standing water tower that can store one cup of water without leaks or spillage.

Students will learn the relative sizes of the planets in the solar system, as well as Pluto, asteroids, and comets, by using a scale model. They will learn that different solar system bodies are made of different materials and will consider different ways to classify them.

Design and build a sleigh using a WeDo kit, K’nex or similar, that will pull a specific measured weight.

Learners will be given a series of challenges (challenge cards) and graph paper. They will need to solve the challenge and code their Ozobot to travel the length of the perimeter. They may opt to include color codes to impact the Ozobot’s travel.

  Learners will each get a quadrilateral and be asked to have their Robot Mouse trace the perimeter. They will also practice having their mouse trace the perimeter of a floor tile. Using the provided paper, students can create a home or town for their Robot Mouse. They must create one algorithm on how their Mouse can travel from one spot to another. 

  Students will use code and go robot mice to develop a sequence of stems to create and test a path around a polygon.
