This resource supports the English language development of English language learners. This website has lots to offer - people and places to visit and plenty of ways to explore how the city's residents recycle, reduce, and reuse waste. Students can click on any section of Recycle City that they want to tour, or click on the Dumptown Game. They can also create their own Recycle City scavenger hunt or go to the Activities area to see other ways they can explore.

In this activity, children will place a seed in soil, care for it, and track the plant?s growth. By caring for a plant, children will contribute to Lady Bird Johnson?s mission of beautification. Observation and measuring skills will be developed through tracking the plant's growth.

This is a problem-solving task focused on recycling.  The number range is multiples of 10 from 100 – 190. Students solve word problems and write a word problem. Extra questions about recycling are included. This lesson was developed by NCDPI as part of the Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted Instructional Resources Project. This lesson plan has been vetted at the state level for standards alignment, AIG focus, and content accuracy.

Students can work in pairs or solo, if you want to let them take them home afterwards, to design/make a birdhouse from recycled materials. The students will use their knowledge of what animals need for survival as well as information regarding recycling and helping the environment

Students use data and satellite images to examine how human actions can degrade, improve, or maintain the quality of each resource. Then they will analyze and interpret graphc data to make recommendations for improving future use of these resources.

Students will explain the need to reduce the amount of trash they generate and describe ways in which they can make changes in their actions to support waste reduction. Students will collect, record, and interpret data using a variety of graphic representations.

In this lesson, students learn where and how to properly dispose of and recycle items in their local area. Students will use art supplies to create a create a poster that displays the information.

Students will discuss how they can protect nature at their current age and as they become adults.
