This article describes a researcher's history of studying sea ice and the dynamic nature of observed changes to the sea ice in the polar regions.

Students will complete research about an animal of their choice using the San Diego Zoo Kids Zoo website. The students will create a SlideShow Presentation to share with the class teaching about their animal. The class will use given “clues” based on research to guess the student's animal.

It is important that students learn how to search safely online. Students will get an introduction to safe search engines, including MeL (Michigan e-Library.org), to find ways to search safely for information. Students will also review how using key effective keywords will give them better results.

Students learn how to choose effective KEYWORDS for searching online. Finding the right keyword/s to use when doing research is extremely important so that your search is relevant and you don't waste time during the research process.

Look at claims and opposing claims in one graphic organizer to aid in the use of the information in writing.

Skim the provided article to determine the author's claim. Then, read the article again and complete the Evaluating Evidence worksheet to identify the evidence the author provides to support that claim and determine whether the author makes a solid case for his/her claim. Lastly, complete the Warrant Workout worksheet with your own claim, evidence, and warrants.
