First Lego League gives students the opportunity to engage in hands-on STEM experiences. Yes, students will develop skills in programming but FLL connects STEM concepts to real-world examples.

This Google Slides presentation was created to share with a group of teachers from professional development. The extensions are listed and linked in the circles, with a description of what they are designed to do on each slide. 

Scratch is a free introductory coding program that allows students to create interactive stories, games and animations using colorful blocks in a drag and drop interface. Once students learn the basics of Scratch throug independent exploration or direct instruction they are ready to begin creating projects that allow them to demonstrate their learning in fun new ways. Using animated illustrations, storytelling, and interactive games students can share their learning across all content areas. When combined with a Makey Makey electronic kit, students can personalize their Scratch programs by creating input devices that enhance their projects, such as interactive posters like those found in museums.

NASCAR is an excellent teaching application for students. STEM in action. During the sessions, you will learn how STEM is applied in real-world examples in NASCAR, from friction inside an engine to calculate the fuel added to the car. You will have the opportunity to learn to use household items for experiments and engineering, outdoors as a teaching environment, and the technology (OG and new) to amp up the engagement.

Students will use previous knowledge of Ozobots and coding to color code a path in a maze to create a snowman.

Prodigy is an online curriculum aligned math practice website. Students complete math tasks and earn play time which is in a video game format. It is an adaptive math program.

This slide deck presents basic information about SAMR for teachers.  It will guide teachers to examine their own lessons and acctivies through the lens of SAMR, looking for ways to increase engagement by moving through different categories of SAMR.

The Jeopardy game template can be used as a resource to support reading skills development. The Jeopardy Labs site has many options for reading instruction in the areas of phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary and other areas.

In this session teachers will explore try out some of the science challenges. All lessons align to the NEXT Generation Science standards. These are easily transfer over to the NC Science standards. English Language Arts is easily integrated through the documentation tool. Students do reflective writing about their design and solution. These lessons can meet science standards in K-5. First Lego League Junior prepares them for more advance robotics and engineering. The FIRST Core Values helps students to work as a team.

Selfie Stickers is an online tool or app where students can modify their favorite photos. They will have fun using the stickers to make hilarious creations by adding them to their selfies. This is a good website to begin talking about altering photos and pictures online.
