Students will be tasked with building a structure that can hold as many books as possible, at least 4 inches off of the desk/table. After planning and creation, groups will be able to add as many books as possible until their structure finally collapses.

Students will use bots (Sphero Indi or Beebots) to make a shape demonstrating not only their understanding of the attributes of shapes but of the technology required to apply it.

Chico has a friend who is stuck in a laundry shoot and uses a new tool to help his friend get free. Create a new tool using materials from a list provided and work within a budget constraint.

Students in the OCS program can learn real world work skills by helping to create an inventory of Makerspace items using a spreadsheet and how to work together as a team.  In this lesson they also can use a Cricut machine and Design Space software to create lables for items in the Makerspace.  

Put the events in the correct sequence and have Olive, the Reindeer (BeeBot) travel through the story. Can you create a maze for Olive and the other reindeer to help Santa deliver Christmas presents?

Students will research an African American person based on set questions. The students will present their person in an interview format - Guess Who.This resource has been remixed to add a digital presentation option.

Students will plan and design a rocket that will travel the greatest distance. Students will consider what they know about rockets, energy, lengths and distances while using a budget to build their rockets.

This is a sample survey that could be used with 4th and/or 5th graders. It is highly recommended that you utilize this or some version of it to gather baseline data before rolling out your plans with students (and then annually thereafter in order to track changes).

This link will force a copy so that you can add, remove, or edit questions however fits your district needs. Some options worth considering:

-Adding a name field in order to follow up with individual students regarding their interests in STEM
-Adding a race field in order to better track success with subgroups
-Adding or revising the list of STEM Careers to include ones that you would like to generate more interest in within your 6-12 schools (ie, if you have a CTE Drone program, add "drone pilot")

This will force a copy of a simple implementation tracker form that you can edit and use as you begin to roll out activities in your district.

Project Summary
In this lesson students will learn about electromagnetic energy through a female engineer who invented frequency hopping that is used by so many devices we use daily. Students will explore and solve a real world problem by designing a device to block or build a stronger Wi-Fi signals. Each team will record their work with Flip.
