This lesson can be used in pairs or individually. It is created for a review after the 1st nine weeks of third grade. Students will use the task cards to solve problems including rounding to the nearest ten and hundred and place value problems with place value blocks.
I used these printouts at the beginning of the year to help students practice appropriate technology practices. I printed the permits on one color of paper and the licenses on another color. Once a student had proved to me that they could handle my expectations, they turned their permit in for a license, knowing they could always be returned to a permit. A student with a permit has to keep their screen pointed at the teacher and have a partner whenever on the computer. A student with a license can choose flexible seating and be independent when working with technology. All students are still subject to "speeding tickets" aka history checks.

The Unit 2: Theme Learning Plan allows students to choose how the learn, practice, and show mastery of Standard RL.8.2 Determine a theme of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to the characters, setting, and plot; provide an objective summary of the text. The data of mastery will be recorded on the Learning Plan and then placed in the student's data notebook. After launching the unit on animals in winter by speaking with an expert, students choose an animal/topic to research. Students then decide which idea from the choice board to pursue to share their learning.
Day 1: draw maps of rooms in the school or the playground
Day 2: write directions of where they are on the map
Day 3: using their bee-bot and grid map, student A will read their written directions and student B will program the Bee-bot with partner A’s directions. The team will problem solve and make notes if the Bee-bot does not locate partner A. Students will then switch roles.
