Students will build background and show understanding about government elections at the local, state, and national levels in the United States.

Students will write, revise, and edit an informational piece to demonstrate mastery of the topic of elections incorporating key academic content vocabulary.

Students will create a PPT with a teacher's model to demonstrate understanding and mastery of key content area vocabulary words.

Students will complete activities during independent work time or literacy stations. Provides a QR code for students to listen to stories (2 non-fiction and 1 fiction) about elections. After they listen to the stories they choose one of the non-fiction texts to write facts about, find the main idea and key details, and define new words

This lesson allows students to apply their knowledge of the brain in understanding how neurochemical imbalances are thought to affect behavior and how different medications are used to treat the symptoms of ADHD. At the conclusion of this lesson, students will be able to discuss differences in brain anatomy and resulting behavior among youth with ADHD, and the different treatment options available for individuals with ADHD.

Students view a video about viruses, how they infect, and how the body defends against them, then learn the basics about HIV. In an associated activity, students will create a card game to clarify the specific ways that HIV is transmitted.

In this lesson, students read about the worldwide AIDS epidemic and the prevalence of AIDS in Africa. A set of discussion questions is provided. In an associated activity, students will consider various options of how the U.S. could react to the AIDS crisis in Africa. Student groups will discuss the options and then role play a State Department meeting on the question of what to do.

Students will explore real data collected on the completion of a maze. Through the two-sample independent -test, students will test to see if the mean time to complete the maze is significantly different for males compared to females.

In August 2008, the "Mountain Weather Workshop: Bridging the Gap Between Research and Forecasting" was held in Whistler, BC, Canada. It was sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, UCAR/COMET, and the Meteorological Service of Canada. The workshop brought together researchers, faculty, students, and operational forecasters. Its primary goals were to help provide a better understanding of the state of the science of mountain meteorology from both a research and an operational perspective, and to discuss ways of improving interaction between the research and forecasting communities. The workshop consisted of lectures by distinguished speakers covering numerous topics related to weather in complex terrain. This webcast collection contains recordings of the presentations from the workshop.

Students will continue their study of measurement geometry with a study of length of an arc and area of a sector

This online textbook is designed for grade 8 and up and covers all of North Carolina history, from the arrival of the first people some 12,000 years ago to the present. There are eleven parts, organized chronologically, a collection of primary sources, readings, and multimedia that can be rearranged to meet the needs of the classroom. Special web-based tools aid reading and model historical inquiry, helping students build critical thinking and literacy skills.

This AP Environmental Science class is intended to meet the same objectives as a first-year college-based course.
However, the method of instruction for this course is unique compared to similar courses because we have adopted
a project-based learning (PBL) approach. Although PBL may take many forms, our approach involves student
investigations and simulations that require students to think like scientists, policymakers, farmers, and other adults
in real-world settings. Teachers engage students in collaborative problem solving, argumentation, and deep
exploration of the concepts and principles of the discipline. The goal for student learning is understanding rather
than relying on rote memory to create meaningful learning and knowledge that is actionable, adaptive, and
transferable.

This lesson will be used on the second day of class to introduce the purpose for government.  There is also a survey for the students to take about the top 10 achievements of the U.S. government in the last 75 years.  There is also a powerpoint going over the first half of the key concepts in AP Government as well as a google forms quiz to give in the last 5 minutes of class.

The AQ-IQ Contest for Seventh Grade Students has students creating a project on an air quality problem, looking for solutions to the problem, and creating a poster, on-line interactive, artist, or video project to educate others about the issue. Students will submit the projects and bibliographies using an on-line tool. The pest projects will be invited to a recognition ceremony and receive a prize package.
