The best way to learn something is to repeat, retell and teach something to others. Students will learn about events in history. They can be scientific or historical events. Students may read about them in a history book or even in a book of historical fiction.
This interactive exercise allows the user to input keyboard chords after looking at a note on the staff. An audio example is played after the correct answer is chosen. Can be used for assessment or self practice as well.
This is an online sorting game that compares the lifetime risk of death from an asteroid impact to other threats. For example, are you more likely to be killed by an amusement park ride or an asteroid impact? It is part of the Killer Asteroids Web Site. The site also features a background overview of the differences between asteroids and comets, information on different types of asteroids (rubble piles vs monoliths), a discussion of how at risk Earth really is to an asteroid or comet impact, and background information on light curves.
Students will program robots through a given maze that they create using Alphabet or number flashcards. You will need to purchase either BEEBOT robots or CODIE AND GO MOUSE ROBOTS to complete this activity.
Students will design a fun and safe roller coaster with at least one loop. Students start by simulating a coaster with Amusement Park Physics. Here they learn about giving their coaster the maximum energy needed to complete the course. Their coaster design is rated for safety and fun. After simulating a coaster and understanding how to design a safe and fun coaster, students use the design process to create a prototype coaster for an amusement park.
This is a multi-level, physics-based game that asks players to save Earth by using their spaceship to deflect an incoming asteroid. It is designed to accurately reflect the physics of space and could be used to help confront preconceptions about motion and forces in space. It is part of the Killer Asteroids Web Site. In this activity, students play a board game in which players try to ensure the survival of their animal species while dealing with problems (such as habitat destruction, pollution, or natural disasters) the animals encounter during the game. Prior to the game, the book Brother Eagle, Sister Sky by Susan Jeffers should be read aloud to the students and used to engage student thinking about human and environmental impact on animal survival.
In this virtual resource, students will investigate the lithosphere, focusing specifically on conservation practices to improve soil quality. They will evaluate their school grounds, and sketch a plan to improve the soil health in their space.
The wakelet site features videos demonstrating hands-on activities for students to complete at school in small, socially-distanced settings. Activities may also be adapted for at-home learning. Some activities incorporate an outdoor component, acknowledging the need to balance screen time with green time to support mental health.
